Funding a Vehicle or Truck Purchase for Your Texas Business

A work truck is rarely just the sticker price. Upfit, insurance and downtime come with it. This is how to count the whole cost and match the funding to the job the truck does.

Start with what the vehicle has to earn

The question is not whether you can afford the vehicle. It is what it adds each week. A second service van can mean a second crew on the road. A box truck can mean deliveries you currently turn down. A trailer can let one crew handle bigger jobs. If you cannot name the added work, the purchase can wait.

This page is about work trucks, vans, trailers and similar business vehicles. Long-haul trucking is a different cash-flow world with its own insurance and fuel economics, and we do not promise funding for it.

The cost list people forget

  1. The vehicle itself, including any down payment you will bring.
  2. Upfit: shelving, racks, a liftgate, graphics, tool storage, ladder racks.
  3. Insurance that must be in place before it is on the road, often at a higher amount than the old vehicle.
  4. Registration and title fees and any sales tax due at purchase.
  5. Fuel and tires in the first weeks of heavier use.
  6. Driver or crew time before the new work starts paying.

Add them up before you decide how much to fund. A vehicle bought at a good price that leaves you short on insurance and fuel is a bad purchase.

An illustration with round numbers

For illustration only: you find a used cargo van for $38,000. Upfit runs $6,000, the first insurance payment is $2,500, and you want $5,000 in reserve for the first month of fuel and a hired helper. The full requirement is about $51,500, not $38,000. These are made-up figures to show how the total builds up. They are not our terms, rates or a typical result.

If the van lets you take on an extra $4,000 of work a week, the question becomes how many weeks of that extra work it takes to repay the amount you funded. If the honest answer is a long time, buy the smaller van.

Funding the purchase

We fund $25,000 to $5,000,000, funded in as little as 24 hours, with a 5-minute application and a soft credit pull. Sole proprietors can apply. Speed helps when a used vehicle you want has other buyers, but do not let it push you to buy before you have counted upfit and insurance.

Ask any offer how repayment works and what the total repayment is. If a vehicle is going to sit idle during repairs or a slow stretch, the payment keeps coming, so a funded amount that leaves a cushion is safer than one that only just covers the truck.

Common Questions

Should I fund the upfit along with the vehicle?

Usually yes, since a bare van often cannot earn until it is outfitted. Total the vehicle, upfit, insurance and first-month running costs and size the request to that.

Does a used truck change the plan?

It changes the risk. Budget a repair cushion and have a mechanic inspect it. A cushion matters more with used vehicles because downtime hits revenue and the payment continues.

Can a sole proprietor fund a work vehicle?

Yes, sole proprietors can apply. The application takes about 5 minutes with a soft credit pull.

What if the vehicle costs less than $25,000?

Our range starts at $25,000. For a smaller purchase, a different financing route or paying part in cash may fit better.

Do you fund long-haul trucks?

We describe the cash-flow reality of trucking but do not promise funding for long-haul operations. Local work vehicles and trailers are the better fit for this page.
