The Panhandle is the state's northernmost block: square, flat and far from the Gulf. Owners here plan around wind, wheat, cattle and miles.

Amarillo anchors the region for shopping, medicine and professional services. The other towns are county seats and ag-and-industry hubs that serve a wide rural area.
Farm and ranch operations, grain and feed handling, processing plants, equipment dealers, truck repair, welding shops and rural retailers are the backbone of the smaller Panhandle towns. Their customers earn money on seasonal schedules and weather luck, and when they are short, they pay late or buy less.
For illustration only, a farm-equipment dealer might buy $120,000 in parts ahead of a busy period. If customers pay at harvest, that dealer has funded their season for months. A line of working capital turns that exposure into a managed cost instead of a squeeze.
Texas tax deadlines also add predictable cash calls. Sales tax is filed monthly or quarterly as the comptroller assigns, and the annual franchise tax report is due May 15.
The Panhandle is open country, and weather events can reshape a season. Hail damage creates repair work for roofers and body shops while hurting growers and ranchers. Wind and winter storms close roads and delay deliveries. Weather can raise business for some owners and cut it for others in the same week.
That is part of why seasoned owners keep cash flexible. A roofer who needs materials ahead of a storm response, or a feed dealer who needs to restock after a hard winter, usually has to pay before they earn. Working capital can make those moves possible.
If you are weighing a purchase, a useful discipline is to write down the date the money leaves your account and the date you expect it to come back. The distance between those two dates is the real size of the gap.
