A triangle named for oil

The Beaumont-Port Arthur metropolitan area is a three-county region in Southeast Texas, known as the Golden Triangle. The word golden refers to the wealth that came from the Spindletop oil strike near Beaumont in 1901, and triangle to the area between Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange. It borders the Houston metropolitan area to the west and the Lake Charles area in Louisiana to the east. Our grouping lists seven counties: Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, Jasper, Newton, Polk and Tyler.

Contract work and the cash cycle

Industrial and energy-linked areas run on contracts. A welding shop, scaffold crew, equipment rental yard or catering company may do work on a project schedule and invoice at the end of it, sometimes weeks later. In the meantime, labor is paid weekly. That is the pattern a line of credit follows best: borrow while the invoice is pending, repay when it clears.

Draw rules that keep a line useful

  • Tie each draw to one pending invoice or purchase.
  • Repay from that invoice, not from the next draw.
  • Keep a minimum balance goal and review it monthly.
  • If you hit the limit twice in a row, stop and re-examine pricing or customer terms.

Storm season and the line

The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. A Gulf Coast owner might use a line before a storm for supplies and staff, then after it for repairs while insurance is pending. Texas Windstorm Insurance Association is a not-for-profit insurer of windstorm and hail coverage for property owners who cannot get it in the regular market; where it applies, the claim process takes time that payroll does not wait for.

Choosing between a line and an equipment purchase

Owners in industrial areas sometimes use a line to cover something that is really an equipment purchase, such as a welding rig or a trailer. That works in a pinch, but a revolving draw is designed for gaps, not for assets you will keep for years. If the cost is one machine, look at financing built around that purchase; if it is wages and materials awaiting a payment, a line fits. Matching the structure to the use makes the repayment far easier to plan, because the money repaying it comes from the same place the need came from.

Common Questions

Is this for oil and gas firms?

It is for any Texas business with uneven cash timing. Oilfield and industrial-linked firms are an example, not a requirement.

Why mention the hurricane season?

It affects costs and revenue for Gulf Coast owners, and a line you already have is easier to use than one you start arranging after a storm warning.

Can a one-person shop apply?

Yes. Sole proprietors can apply.

How are limits decided?

On the application. Funding runs from $25,000 to $5,000,000, and we do not publish terms.
